The purpose of our Spelling Mat is to strengthen children’s phonemic awareness and phonics skills. To spell a word, a child must first be able to hear and identify the individual sounds (phonemes) in words. From there, they must connect those sounds to their corresponding letter(s) to spell words correctly. The four sections on our Spelling Mat helps children through this process.
